In survival mode, players have to gather natural resources such as wood and stone found in the environment in order to craft certain blocks and items. Depending on the difficulty, monsters spawn in darker areas outside a area of the player, which means that you have to build a shelter in order to survive the first night. Your character has a health bar which means that if you are attacked by a monster or fall then you start to lose your health. In survival you also have a hunger bar so you have to gather food by killing an animal or just by roaming about the map. Players can craft a wide variety of items in Minecraft. Craftable items include armour, which helps prevent less damage from attacks; weapons (such as swords or axes), which allows monsters and animals to be killed more easily; and tools, which break certain types of blocks more quickly.
