The original hunger games begin in district 12, on the day of “the reaping” for the hunger games, Katniss Everdeen’s little sister, Primrose Everdeen, is selected as the girl for district 12. Katniss, unable to bear the thought of her sister competing volunteers, and off to the games she goes. Before the games, the tributes get to know the people of the capitol, Katniss becomes a fan favourite and earns the nickname “the girl on fire” for her extravagant fiery outfit. In the games, she (maybe as a way to win) “falls in love” with the boy from 12. They win by threatening to kill t themselves at the end if the other is not allowed home.

The next year, the president is not happy about Katniss’ stunt at the end of the games, and is selected again for the “quarter quell” (an even more extravagant version of the games) but this time, in a revolution against the capitol they escape, and run to the long thought dead district 13.

Finally, the rebels launch an attack on the capitol, seizing the president and the city. Katniss is meant to execute the president, but instead shoots her own side’s leader,because she killed katniss' sist4er Prim and because she wanted to host the hunger games for the capitol’s children. The books finish with her living happily with Peeta.
